PERFORMANCE: Domenico Mangano & Marieke van Rooy
Throughout the exhibition, an installation of colorful ceramic textures and a charcoal drawing will periodically come alive - transformed into a set for unexpected and untimed sonic performances. Artist duo Mangano & van Rooy will activate their sound sculptures and ‘talking wall’ in a performance without logic nor sense - typical of the theatre of the absurd and part of their new installation The Dilution Cafetaria. Since 2014, the duo has been working on The Dilution Project, an artistic investigation into the legacy of the anti-psychiatry movement.
This work centers on the subject of anti-psychiatry and the related democratic movement that unfolded during the 1970s in the Netherlands. Developed in the United States in the 1960s, 'sensory cafeterias' were designed as spaces in which to engage all the senses. In the 1970s these entered clinical use in the Netherlands as snoezelruimtes, which, to this day, the Netherlands takes a pioneering role internationally. As an installation, The Dilution Cafetaria marks the occasion and periphery upon which the senses are registered.
Performances un-timed and free with admission.
