Domenico Mangano & Marieke van Rooy
Domenico Mangano (b. 1976, Palermo, Italy), and Marieke van Rooy (b. 1974, Weert, NL), live and work in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The duo was formed in 2014, fusing Domenico Mangano’s individual artistic career, with Marieke van Rooy’s academic background in political history of the built environment. Their work is characterized by a combination of research and artistic practice. The narrative approach is central to their projects. Micro stories, anthropology, political and architectural constructions of the social, as well as research into the history of the local, forms the basis of their art. The pair combine archival research with participation and educational projects in their process, which manifest variously as film, spatial installations, photos, drawings, performances and publications.
During a residency from January till March 2021 at EKWC (Europees Keramisch Werkcentrum), Oisterwijk, NL, the duo created a new body of work for their participation in 84 STEPS. From 2019-2020 they participated in a residency at the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht, NL.
