TRAININGS - FAMILY TIES
"The love of the family, the love of one person can heal. It heals the scars left by a larger society. A massive, powerful society”, as said by Maya Angelou. As much as the love of family can heal, an increasing body of research shows that negative family relations can impact one’s health both mentally and physically. The study of the family has played a crucial role in the history of psychoanalysis. Nonetheless, even today, we are often lacking the tools to identify the distressing patterns and improve our family relations. Of course, understanding this requires contextualization in terms of class, gender, and culture. Through this series of Trainings, we want to deploy the tools and share knowledge on how to navigate through challenging family dynamics - near or far, young or old, biological or not. Among other questions, we ask: what does the family entity entail? Can we refer to a family when we refer to a couple with no children or a single parent? How can we sustain family relations over a long distance? And how can we preserve the stories of our ancestors and yet make space for healing from the intergenerational trauma? We dedicate this series to everyone who is interested in receiving insight into their family dynamics.
