FOCUS with Sasha Huber, an exhibition walk-through with her and curator Rosa de Graaf
3–4 pm
Join the artist Sasha Huber in conversation with our curator of exhibitions and art commissions Rosa de Graaf. In their exhibition walkthrough, they will explore the archival research and embodied experience conducted in creating the artworks on view, questioning art’s potential for engendering symbolic rededication.
Sasha Huber’s exhibition at Kunstinstituut Melly explores the artist’s decades-long involvement in the political activist campaign Demounting Louis Agassiz through art-making. For its part, the campaign was founded in 2007 by Swiss historian Hans Fässler, who sought to make public the racist legacy of Swiss-born naturalist and glaciologist Louis Agassiz (1807-1873). As a member of the Demounting Committee, Huber has staged numerous interventions at terrestrial and extraterrestrial sites bearing Agassiz’s name.
Beyond the parameters of the exhibition, informing the discussion will be an understanding of Huber’s involvement within other areas of the institution’s work. Whether as a member of Kunstinstituut Melly’s Name Change Initiative Advisory Committee, her role as a moderator within the Vistas of Modernity reading group, or as a participant within our newly launched podcast, Name Takes.
