Can performance art be collected? What does it mean to acquire a performance piece? How has the practice of collecting performance transformed over the last two decades?
Kunstinstituut Melly presents a seminar with Catherine Wood, Head of Programs at the Tate Modern in London. Wood is renowned for her innovative role in opening museum collections to performance art histories, and is author of the books ‘Performance in Contemporary Art’ (Tate Publishing) and ‘Yvonne Rainer: The Mind is a Muscle’ (Afterall Books). The program will be moderated by Sofía Hernández Chong Cuy, Director of Kunstinstituut Melly, and coincides with the exhibition of new ceramic, textile, performance, and collage Still Shifting, Mother Field by Jennifer Tee.
This program is presented as part of The Mixer, a festive collaboration initiated by Kunstinstituut Melly in partnership with de Ateliers, the Jan van Eyck Academie, the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten as well as with Rotterdam partners Art Rotterdam and Het Nieuw Instituut.
