Witte de With Publishers at New York Art Book Fair and MISS READ: The Berlin Art Book Fair
9 am
Witte de With Publishers is very pleased to return to the New York Art Book Fair where you will find us in Room R on the 3rd Floor. At the very same time, Witte de With Publishers participates in this year’s edition of the Miss Read Book Fair in Berlin. At both instances, Witte de With is sharing their stand with Casco, Utrecht.
The feature for this year is WdW Review (eds. Adam Kleinman, Defne Ayas, Virginie Bobin, Amira Gad) a new online platform organized around several international Desks; a series of framed debates; critical essays, and speculative image readings. This project seeks to foster a new collegium of knowledge partners in a purpose-built infrastructure so as to address how the world is shaped today as a consequence, or in spite of national, international, and other group ideologies. This new publishing activity will be activated through an event within the public programming of the NYABF taking place at PS1’s project space Classroom (for more information, see below).
In Berlin, Witte de With Publishers features the second and revised edition of QUEER ZINES published on the occasion of the exhibition The Temptation of AA Bronson (6 September 2013 – 5 January 2014) at Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. In two volumes, Queer Zines (published by Witte de With Publishers and Printed Matter, Inc.) collects the variegated practices of zine makers past and present, from North America and Europe, and lists them alphabetically, starting with Toronto’s 88 Chins and ending with the Dean Sameshima zine Young Men at Play.
EVENT on SUNDAY 22 SEPTEMBER in New York
Billy Holiday once made a simple, yet prescient observation; when she was coming off drugs, she didn’t like to watch Television. Although this could be seen as a passing comment, such an association ties imagery to narcotics as twinned devices that can both stimulate and anesthetize. Building off such a conflicted prescription, WdW Review continually tasks various writers to dig deep into the means and ways of mediating vision.
Join Chief Editor Adam Kleinman, and invited guests for a public elicitation drawing imagery from images.
EVENT on FRIDAY 20 SEPTEMBER (6 PM) in Berlin
On the occasion of the release of the second and revised edition of Queer Zines (eds. AA Bronson and Philip Aarons), a panel discussion with AA Bronson and his guests takes place at the Miss Read Art Book Fair in Berlin where the artist is present to sign copies.
