This conference cultivates and empowers a community of engaged teachers, educators and museum professionals to advance arts education for secondary schools and intermediate vocational education. The arts curriculum in schools is currently undergoing far-reaching changes. Which forms of contemporary arts education are being developed by schools and by arts institutions that are open to trends in emerging and often challenging arts practice, culture and media?
In Rotterdam three arts organisations have joined forces to create an integrated educational offering embedding contemporary art in the curriculum of high schools. During this conference Witte de With, TENT and MAMA will share their approach and learning in developing this package. Experts from the Netherlands and further a field will reflect on current developments in arts education and educators working with a host of institutions will share projects and ideas.
Speakers include: Maria Acaso (Pedagogías Invisibles), Piet van Hecke (M HKA), Fabienne Hendriks (Nominee Threshold Award WdKA), Sanne Scholten (LKCA), David Smeulders (de Appel Arts Centre), Judith Vorwerk (TENT), Sigmar Vriesde (MAMA), Yoeri Meessen (Witte de With Centre for Contemporary Art), Mirjam van Tilburg (KCR) and Leanne Turvey and Alice Walton (TATE).
