Julija Mockute
Julija Mockutė is a curator and cook working and living in Rotterdam. Born in Lithuania, she moved to the Netherlands in 2013 where, next to studying and working in cultural institutions, she worked as a cook. Her practice is informed by trauma studies and the politics of labour, with a special interest in feminist and national memory, and how these themes are reproduced and reflected in contemporary art.
Julija holds a BA in Liberal Arts & Sciences, with a major in Sociology and an MA in Museum Studies. She has curated a solo exhibition by Diana al Halabi, Delivered Home with no Eye Contact (2020) at Growing Space Wielewaal, and a group show In Poland, David Bowie was a woman (2018) at the Van Abbemuseum. Julija has worked previously at the Van Abbemuseum, Patty Morgan, and Framer Framed.
