Judy Watson
Judy Watson works and lives in Brisbane, Queensland. Watson works across painting, printmaking, drawing, and sculpture to explore themes relating to her Aboriginal heritage. Watson’s matrilineal family is from Waanyi country in northwest Queensland and her work is inspired by Aboriginal history and culture. Her work is often concerned with collective memory and uses archival documents to unveil institutionalized discrimination against Aboriginal people. Watson has had solo exhibitions at Ikon Gallery, Birmingham; and Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane; among others, and her work is included in many collections, including National Gallery of Australia, Parkes; and Tate Modern, London.
