Ayreen Anastas & Rene Gabri
Ayreen Anastas and Rene Gabri are the names of two artists who started collaborating in 1999, the same year they began animating with friends a collective space for rethinking art, life, and politics. For 16 years, the physical location has been at 16 Beaver Street just below Wall Street in New York.
The one called Ayreen was born in occupied Palestine and the other, Rene, in Tehran, Iran. Their relation to art is in its potential to unmake as much as it is to make. They understand art not as just another field of human activity or doing but a potential space to rethink all activities and doings. In their open form collaborations, posing, sharing questions and proposing interesting ways to attend to them, remains a recurring and critical means for intervening in and interrogating our times.
