François Chaignaud
François Chaignaud (b. 1983, Rennes) is a choreographer based in Paris. He graduated from the Le Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de musique de Paris (CNSM) in 2002. Since 2003, he has danced with, among others, Boris Charmatz, Emmanuelle Huynh, Gilles Jobin, Tiago Guedes, Dominique Brun, Grands Magasins, and Alain Buffard. He presents performances and concerts in various venues, at the crossroads of various inspirations – erotica (Aussi Bien Que Ton Cœur Ouvre Moi Les Genoux, 2008); operetta, including hula hoop (Duchesses, 2009, created with Marie-Caroline Hominal). In July 2013 he premiered ДУМИ МОЇ – DUMY MOYI, a solo that investigates different sources of modern dance (from rituals, to music hall and fashion). He has initiated several collaborations, especially with San Francisco legendary drag queen Rumi Missabu, performer Benjamin Dukhan, and cabaret artist Jérôme Marin (Sous L’Ombrelle, 2011). In 2012, he was involved in the creation of Sacre # 197 by Dominique Brun. Since 2005, he collaborates with Cecilia Bengolea, creating numerous works, a collaboration that earned them the Paris critique choreographic revelation award (2009). Besides his work as a choreographer, he has published a book about french early feminism L’Affaire Berger-Levrault: le féminisme à l’épreuve (1898–1905).
