Lisette Smits
Lisette Smits (1965, NL) is a freelance curator, editor and educator based in the Netherlands. From 1996 until 2005 she was director of Casco, office for Art, Design and Theory in Utrecht. She co-founded Casco Issues and was its editor-in-chief until issue #9. From 2009 until 2013 she was associate curator at Marres, Centre for Contemporary Culture in Maastricht, where she curated exhibitions including: Depression (2009), Madame Realism (2011), Specters of the Nineties (2012), and Deep Cuts (2013). She has published texts on curating and the work of a variety of artists; her editorial projects include the monograph Barbara Visser is er niet (2006); the anthology Wonder Years (2008), and Goofy Audit (2011), a monograph on the work of Chris Evans. She has taught at various programs internationally. She was a lecturer at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam (2007-2015) and tutor of De Appel Curatorial Program (2008-2016). She initiated and wrote the curriculum for the temporary and experimental master program Master of Voice, launched October 2016 at the Sandberg Instituut in Amsterdam.
