Gabriel Lester
Gabriel Lester is part of the Supervisory Board of Kunstinstituut Melly.
Gabriel Lester (b. 1972, The Netherlands) is an inventor and artist based in Amsterdam. He has studied cinema and fine arts in Breda, Brussels, Amsterdam, Stockholm, and New York between 1994 and 2006. Lester’s artworks consist of installations, performances and films. Other activities include commissioned artworks and architecture for the public space under the moniker PolyLester and narrative cinema at LestarFilm. Lester has been employed as teacher at the VAV BA course and as main tutor at the MA fine arts department of the Sandberg institute, both at the Amsterdam Rietveld academy. He has exhibited internationally with solo exhibitions including Suspension of Disbelief, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam (2011); Roxy, Minsheng Museum, Shanghai (2012); Habitat Sequences, MAMM, Buenos Aires (2014), Unresolved Extravaganza, De Appel, Amsterdam (2016), The Return of Lester’s Loops, Groninger Museum (2017), Holes in the Sky , Machinery of Me, Arnhem (2020). He has also exhibited in numerous group shows, such as Sharjah Biennial (2013); Venice Biennial (2013); Documenta 12 (2012); Secret Societies, Schirn Kunsthalle, Frankfurt (2011); The Prompt, Performa 09 Biennial, New York (2009); Sydney biennial (2014); Moscow biennial (2015).
