Mohieddin El- Labbad
Mohieddin El- Labbad (Cairo, Egypt, 1940) studied fine arts from 1957 to 1962 at the Academy of Art in Cairo. While still a student at the academy he started to work for the periodical Sindbad and his first children’s book was published by Dar el Maarif. On completing his studies he became an illustrator for newspapers and periodicals. In 1962 he made illustrations for the magazines Rose el Yussef and Sabah el Kheir. Since then he has continued to work as an illustrator, writer and book designer in Egypt and other Arab countries.
A collection of his articles on visual arts, graphic design, visual communication, caricatures and calligraphy was published in two books, Nazar 1 (Dar Al Arabi, 1987) and Nazar 2 (Dar Al Arabi, 1991). More recently he published 100 Drawings and more (Dar Al Moustakbal Al Arabi, 2001), a collection of illustrations printed since 1997 in the Arab edition of Le Monde Diplomatique.
