Cristina Ricupero
Cristina Ricupero (Italian-Brazilian) is a Paris-based independent curator and art critic. She has curated exhibitions world-wide, and is known for her special interest in social issues and in constructing a story line through an exhibition with projects such as Social Hackers (Centre d’édition contemporaine, Geneva, 2001), Fundamentalisms of the New Order (Kunsthal Charlottenborg, 2002), Populism (Contemporary Art Centre in Vilnius; the National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design in Oslo; the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and the Frankfurter Kunstverein, 2005), Dance in My Experience (Kunstverein Düsseldorf, 2009) and most recently Secret Societies (Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt and CAPC de Bordeaux, 2011-2012). She also co-curated a group exhibition with artist Fabian Marti: Cosmic Laughter – timewave zero then what? at the Ursula Blickle Stiftung, Germany (2012). Some of her latest shows include Suspicious Minds at Galeria Vermelho, Sao Paulo, Brazil (2013) – a prelude to The Crime Was Almost Perfect she is curating at Witte de With from January 24 to April 27, 2014.
In 2010 she started a new biennial Manufacturing Today in Trondheim, Norway, which involved many European art academies and in 2006 she was commissioned to cover the European section of the Gwangju Biennale in South Korea. Cristina Ricupero has also been a frequent lecturer at different art academies in Europe including Faculty of Art and Architecture at NTNU, Trondheim in Norway and at Kunstuniversität Linz, Autstria and is a regular contributor to frieze magazine.
