Lili Reynaud-Dewar
Lili Reynaud-Dewar (b. 1975, France) studied ballet and public law before enrolling for the Master of Fine Arts at the Glasgow School of Arts. She directs her friends, students, family in her relatively epic performances and installations, which are conceived as cycles, less or more repetitive and stretched. Recently, she started using her own body and here knowledge of dance in her videos. Her work addresses autobiographical material as well as the legacy of artistic figures of the 20th century such as dancer Josephine Baker, musician Sun Ra, writers Guillaume Dustan and Jean Genet. Navigating between these polarities, between the personal and the political, between self-narrative and appropriation, Reynaud-Dewar’s work aims to question certain limits and boundaries within the very notion of authorship. Lili Reynaud-Dewar co-founded Petunia, a feminist art and entertainment publication. She is a professor at the Haute Ecole d’Art et de Design, Geneva. Her recent solo shows have been exhibited in venues, such as Clearing, New York (2013), Karma International, Zurich (2012); Mary Mary, Glasgow (2011); Kunsthalle Basel (2010); FRAC Champagne Ardennes, Reims (2010).
