Pierre Huyghe
Pierre Huyghe (b. 1962, France) is an artist who lives and works in New York and Paris. He received his artistic education from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Graphiques et Décoratifs, Paris. His work, including situations and films, frequently mixes fact with fiction. He often intervenes in unexpected locations, such as the Wollman skating rink in Central park with his light and musical event; the Sydney Opera House, which he filled with an arboretum; even the Antartica by through an artistic expedition. Huyghe has had numerous international solo exhibitions at such venues as the Centre Pompidou, Paris (2013); Museo Tamayo Arte Contemporaneo, Mexico City (2012); Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid and The Art Institute of Chicago (2010); Tate Modern, London (2006); Moderna Museet, Stockholm and the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin (2005); the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York (2003). He has also participated in a number of international art shows, including Documenta XI (2002), XIII (2012); and the Istanbul Biennial (1999). He has also received a number of international grants and awards: the DAAD Artist in Residence grant in Berlin (1999-2000), the Hugo Boss Prize (2002), the Smithsonian American Museum’s Contemporary Artist Award (2010), and the Roswitha Haftmann Preis Award (2013).
