Sheung Chi Kwan
Kwan Sheung Chi (b. 1980, Hong Kong) lives and works in Hong Kong. His works span across different media, including performance, installation and video, and ‘unveil upside-down and sometimes absurd situations from specific social contexts, questioning the contradictions and power relations in today’s society.’ Playful yet perceptive, Kwan’s works address the landscape of contemporary urban life, often with an ironic and witty undertone. Kwan Sheung Chi obtained his BA in Fine Arts from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2003. He was a founding member of local art groups Hong Kong Arts Discovery Channel (HKADC), hkPARTq (Political Art Group) and Woofer Ten. In 2009 he had been awarded the Starr Foundation Fellowship from the Asian Cultural Council, to take part in an international residency program in New York. He is also the winner of the inaugural “Hugo Boss Asia Art” in 2013.
