Broomberg & Chanarin
Adam Broomberg (1970, ZA) & Oliver Chanarin (1971, UK) live and work in London. Tackling politics, religion, war, and history, Broomberg & Chanarin open the fault lines associated with such imagery, creating new responses and pathways toward an understanding of the human condition. Trained as photographers, they now work across diverse media, with language and literature playing an increasing role as material for their multifaceted work.
Together they have had numerous solo exhibitions including the Jumex Foundation in Mexico City, Fotomuseum The Hague, and the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. Their participation in international group shows has included Tate Modern (London), Shanghai Biennale, Museum of Modern Art (New York), the 9th Gwanju Biennale, and the KW Institute for Contemporary Art (Berlin). Their work is held in major public and private collections including Tate (Londen), MoMA (New York), Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the V&A (London), the International Center of Photography (New York), and the Art Gallery of Ontario. They have been awarded ICP’s Infinity Award (2014), and the Deutsche Börse Photography Prize (2013).
