Nicolás Lamas
Nicolás Lamas (1980, Lima, Peru) lives and works in Brussels, Belgium. His work revolves around the interaction between things, where they coexist, and create different associations, exchanges, and combinations without established rules. His method can be seen as a series of speculative exercises where everything is part of a cyclical process of transmitting information and energy, through which intuition, chance, play, and physics determine his connection with objects and images. This generates a heterogeneous, multi-layered, and context-specific body of work.
Lamas’ recent solo exhibitions include: Various others, (duo show with Tramaine de Senna), Loggia (Munich, 2019); Archaeology of Darkness, Meessen De Clercq (Brussels, 2019); Liminality, Sabot (Cluj-Napoca, 2018); Despise the solid burgher, but drink deep from his flagon, (duo show with Matt Byans), Martin van Zomeren gallery (Amsterdam, 2018); and The Form of Decay, P/////AKT (Amsterdam, 2017), among others. Recent group exhibitions include: FIAC 2019 (Petit Palais) (Paris, 2019); Concentrations, BAD (Ghent, 2019); and Olaph the Oxman, Copperfield gallery (London, 2019); The Practice of Everyday Life, after de Certeau, Yiull/Crowley (Sydney, 2018); and Archipelago – a Problem (on the exactitude of Science), TLÖN Projects (The Hague, 2018), among others.
