Dan Zhu
Dan Zhu (b. 1985 in Jiangxi, China) lives and works in Shenyang, China. She holds a Bachelor of Communication Theory at Shenzhen University, Shenzhen, China (2003-2007) and completed a Master of Design at Communication University of China, Beijing, China (2009). Zhu studied at the Kunst and Design University in Hessen, Germany (2010-2020) and at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam, Netherlands (2018-2019).
Dan Zhu observes the world very carefully and adds these observations together with a lot of fantasy in her drawings and paintings. Fiction and reality enter into an interesting dialogue and eventually merge together into a new world. In 2018 she presented her first solo exhibition titled There is no size, Amsterdam, Netherlands. A year later she won the Dutch Royal Painting Prize (2020) and got commissioned by Digital Earth to make new work (2019). Dan Zhu won the C.o.C.A. Award (2020) and will complete a mural at SCHUNCK in Heerlen, Netherlands (2021)
