Pitchaya Ngamcharoen
Pitchaya Ngamcharoen is a storyteller, a cook, and an artist. Her work questions the relationship between non-human and human animals through the hierarchy of senses, especially the sense of smells and tastes. Growing up in Thailand where there is a high level of humidity and heat, everyday life smells such as cooking smells, smoke, rotten garbage, or wet street dogs are intensified. Having a chance to live both in East and West, Pitchaya recognizes the differences in olfactory symbolism and appreciation. Her recent research focuses on smell, cleaning, and the history of hygiene in relation to orientation, territory, group formation, and deodorization as methods of colonization.
