Maike Hemmers
Maike Hemmers (1987, Germany) is an artist based in Rotterdam. She works with pastel drawings and soft sculptures as her main tools to understand and portray how affects, feelings, and relationships move through a body. Hemmers' researches and uses spiritual and somatic practices — the connection of mind, body, and soma, its energy field. With the practice of connecting somatically inner awareness, the physical body and artistic works, our common ability of deep listening and shared signaling is manifested. By examining the effect of color through drawing, Hemmers' explores different practices of self-examination that lead to an embodied consciousness.
Maike Hemmers has received her MFA in 2017 at the Dutch Art Institute (NL). Most recently she has exhibited soft sculptures at Firstdraft (AUS) and Life (NL), and drawings at Milieu (CH) and Showroom Mama (NL). Some of Hemmers' writing can be found online at Nero Editions and The Site Magazine. Her work has recently been supported by CBK Rotterdam and Mondriaan Fonds.
