Kunstinstituut Melly is Looking for Two Members of its Supervisory Board
Kunstinstituut Melly in Rotterdam is looking for two members of its Supervisory Board. The ideal candidates are interested in contemporary art and culture, and in developing a meaningful relationship with a cultural institution with a local and global reach. We are seeking one candidate to serve as a Chairperson and for an artist, for an average of 4 meetings per year, starting in the Summer of 2024. Members are appointed for a term of three years and may be re-elected once after this term has ended.
Candidates Profile
Kunstinstituut Melly is looking for a balance between nationalities, genders, ages, experiences, and backgrounds of its members of the Supervisory Board and endorses the Governance Code for Culture, the Fair Practice Code, and the Diversity & Inclusion Code.
The ideal candidates also comply with three or more of these characteristics:
(a) interested in the national and international histories and present debates about cultural representation;
(b) knowledge of policy-making and (cultural) governance in general;
(c) connections with representatives of the city of Rotterdam;
(d) experience with organizational processes;
(e) bring a perspective or expertise related to entrepreneurship;
(f) has no conflict of interest at the time of appointment.
(g) The Chairperson preferably lives in Rotterdam.
These are non-paid positions (a travel allowance is available).

Interested candidates should submit an application letter by 31 May 2024 via applications [at] kunstinstituutmelly.nl, including a self-introduction and a short explanation of why their candidacy merits consideration, which should respond in one way or another to the desired profile listed above.
Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed by the existing members of the Supervisory Board by mid-June. Selected candidates will be invited for an interview in June/July, conducted by the Director, the current Chairperson of Kunstinstituut Melly’s Supervisory Board, and one additional member of the current Supervisory Board. Selected candidates will be announced in September 2024.
Constitution
The Supervisory Board is responsible for monitoring the policy and the general course of events in the institution. In addition, the Supervisory Board members assist the Director by providing advice. Together, the Supervisory Board members have both the expertise and the broad knowledge required. The desired size and composition of this body are described in the Supervisory Board Regulations.

Kunstinstituut Melly is conceived as an art house in Rotterdam. Our mission is to present and discuss the work created by visual artists from here and afar. Kunstinstituut Melly is supported by the City of Rotterdam and the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Science in the Netherlands. Our activities are also supported through foundation grants, private funds, individual donations, and income from tickets for admission and events, and sales of publications and limited art editions.
