Studio Miessen
Studio Miessen is a Berlin-based collaborative agency for spatial practice and cultural analysis founded in 2002 and led by architect, consultant and writer Markus Miessen (b. 1978). His work revolves around the question of critical spatial practice, institution building, and spatial politics. Studio Miessen has been regularly involved in projects in the art world, producing settings in which discursive and physical production can take place, and has published and exhibited internationally. Studio Miessen recently embarked on its largest and most ambition project to date: a new master plan and Kunsthalle building for a former NATO ammunition bunker facility in Germany. As a consultant, Miessen has advised the European Kunsthalle, SKOR, and the Government of Slovenia, amongst others. In 2008, he founded the Winter School Middle East (Dubai & Kuwait). Miessen is currently a professor for Critical Spatial Practice at the Städelschule in Frankfurt, and guest professor at HEAD, Geneva as well as USC, Los Angeles.
