Rotterdam Cultural Histories #25: 25 Years of Tubelight — Critical Art Critique
This edition of Rotterdam Cultural Histories celebrates the 25th anniversary of Tubelight with an anniversary exhibition. The roots of Tubelight can be found at number 53 Witte de Withstraat, directly across from TENT and Kunstinstituut Melly. Once upon a time, MK Galerie was located here. The gallery owners, Emmo Grofsmid and Karmin Kartowikromo, along with co-initiator Antoine Achten, started an experimental review magazine back in 1998. This small initiative grew over the years into a launching pad for emerging writers, editors, and designers.
In the exhibition space, you can explore the physical edition of Tubelight #126: a magazine in the form of an exhibition. In this space, you can discover all previously published editions of Tubelight, view artworks, and read accompanying reviews and texts about Tubelight. The texts are available on loose sheets in the space, and you are welcome to take them with you. New contributions will be added throughout the exhibition, gradually expanding the issue. Tubelight #126 is designed by Kai Udema, who also created the sanctuary in this space.
The Rotterdam Cultural Histories series is a collaboration between TENT and Kunstinstituut Melly, in which we take turns highlighting subjects from the history of art and culture in Rotterdam. This edition is a production of TENT and was curated by the Tubelight editorial team.
