OPEN CALL: Melly x Amarte — LIVE 2024
Due 31 January 2024
We are delighted to announce that we are teaming up with Amarte Foundation to present LIVE 2024, an art and music event held at Kunstinstituut Melly on Museum Night. Taking place from 8 pm, a series of live concerts will unfold within and in response to the art exhibitions situated across Melly’s multistory building. The event is developed with the support of the Amarte Foundation.
Melly x Amarte: LIVE 2024 takes place on Saturday, 2 March, from 8 pm to 12 am, within the art galleries of Kunstinstituut Melly in Rotterdam. On this special evening, audiences may be staying, and coming in and out of, the galleries, flowing with the different rhythms and installations staged that night.
To program LIVE 2024, Melly and Amarte are launching an Open Call for musicians and sound artists based in The Netherlands. The deadline is 31 January 2024, 11:59 pm. Especially encouraged are proposals of music sets and sound works resonating with the exhibitions on view at Kunstinstituut Melly in March 2024.
• We invite musicians of all ages to participate in this unique musical event as part of the My Oma exhibition. LIVE 2024 aims to celebrate the rich tapestry of cultural and personal narratives through the universal language of music, honoring the theme of intergenerational bonds and heritage. If you have a connection to the themes of legacy, heritage, and intergenerational storytelling, we want to hear from you. We encourage collaborations between older and younger musicians. This could be any combination that reflects an intergenerational exchange. Pieces that reflect on the experiences of immigration, heritage, and changing gender roles are of particular interest. A PDF with detailed descriptions of the galleries and art installations is available here.
• One-person concerts or group/band performances are eligible to apply. For performing, selected applicants receive a fee of 300 Euros (per musician/artist, includes 9% VAT); production support for the performance; and promotion of the event. The evening will be recorded, and an after-movie will be published. Applications will be reviewed by an expert panel convened by Amarte, and the short-listed applicants will be contacted by Kunstinstituut Melly, who shapes the final program. Selected participants will be informed by Monday 12 February 2024.
For its third year, Kunstinstituut Melly and Amarte Foundation partner to engage art and music audiences, as well as the public, in a multisensorial and emotive exploration of key ideas and expressions resonating with our times. LIVE is also created to support creative makers, as well as raise the visibility of contemporary artists and musicians.
LIVE is presented within the programming of Museumnacht010 in Rotterdam, where more than 50 museums and cultural venues in the city are open late to the public. Tickets will be available soon at museumnacht010.nl.
