OPEN CALL: LIVE Kunstinstituut Melly x Amarte
If you are a musician or sound artist interested in performing during LIVE 2023 on Saturday 4 March 2023, 8 pm, at Kunstinstituut Melly during an evening of concerts, please read the following notes and then complete this simple online application. The application deadline is Friday 27 January 2023.
One-person concerts or group/band performances are eligible to apply. For performing, selected applicants receive a fee of 300 Euros (per musician/artist, includes 9% VAT); production support for the performance; promotion of the event. The evening will be recorded, and an after-movie will be published. Applications will be reviewed by an expert panel convened by Amarte, and the short-listed applicants will be interviewed by Kunstinstituut Melly, who makes the final decision and program. Selected participants will be informed by Monday 13 February 2023.
Especially encouraged are proposals of music sets and sound works resonating with the visual art on view at Kunstinstituut Melly in March 2023. These are the art exhibitions that have been scheduled: On its third floor is the group exhibition 84 STEPS, featuring immersive art installations where programs about issues surrounding mental and physical health take place on a regular basis. On the second floor, a solo exhibition by artist Jennifer Tee with a live performance scheduled for the evening on 4 March 2023. And, the third location, on the ground-floor, in the MELLY event space. For more detailed information about these exhibitions and performance locations, click here.
Individual musicians, sound artists, and music bands interested in performing should take into consideration the parameters of working in a visual arts gallery and thus not a fitted musical venue; where a small set-up with no or minimal amplification is preferred; where performers and performances will co-exist with art and audiences; where some sound leakage will likely happen with simultaneous concerts taking place within the building. It is envisioned that audiences may be both sitting-in as much as coming in-and-out of the performances and exhibitions, flowing with the different rhythms and installations staged that night.
LIVE is a yearly collaboration between Kunstinstituut Melly and Amarte Foundation. This event is developed as part of Kunstinstituut Melly X Amarte.
LIVE is specially organized in conjunction with Museumnacht 010 in Rotterdam, where more than 50 museums and cultural venues in the city are open late to the public. Tickets are available at museumnacht010.nl.
